New translation from IS #12 unloaded

It can be accessed from the “IS#12” tab on the menu above, or directly with the link below:

New Debord/Wolman/Berna/Brau text

Followers of this blog may be interested in the first post on my new blog Letterism in English.

It is the first English Translation of a text written by Debord, Wolman, Berna & Brau very soon after founding the Lettrist International. This lengthy text gives a history of Isidore Isou’s Letterist movement up to the break made by the Lettrist International.

Documents from May 1968 in English

Just a quick note to point you in the direction of my other blog Documents from May 68, where I’m posting new documents (tracts and posters) on every day in May and June – which reflect the day-by-day events of 48 years ago.

This includes relevant documents from the SI and the CMDO – so may interest readers of this blog.

New Tranlation from IS#1

I’ve just uploaded my newest translation from IS#1. It’s of “Formulary for a New Urbanism” by Gilles Ivain (Ivan Chtchegloff), which is one of the founding texts of the SI’s conception of “unitary urbanism”.

2 new translations uploaded (IS #12)

Another 2 of the shorter articles from IS #12 have been uploaded in draft form (again, please note – these are yet to be independently proofread).

The first listed below is interesting in that it suggests that “Society of the Spectacle” was a strong contender for a literary award (Prix Sainte-Beuve) in 1968!

They can be accessed from the “IS#12” tab on the menu above, or directly with the links below:

Full list of translated IS journal articles

Over the past week I have added links to all of the English translations of Internationale Situationniste articles available online (both  my own and those on other sites). I have attempted to be comprehensive – but please let me know if anything has been missed, or if any links aren’t working.

The journals are all listed on the menu bar above, just click on the issue number to view the entry. Each entry consists of a scan of the journal cover, a link to a scan of the original (in French – hosted by Ubuweb), and a list of articles including links to available translations (where possible noting the translator’s name).

I am currently working on translations of some of the smaller articles from IS#12, and hope to add them to this blog  by the end of January.

Debord’s “The Naked City” – mapped onto Google Maps

I recently found something I put together a few years ago, then promptly forgot about. It is Guy Debord’s “Naked City”  mapped onto Google’s map of Paris.

I have actually made on overlay for Google Maps that shows each area – which should show in the window below:

For context, here are some images that show how the maps relate to each other:

2016 – The year ahead…

Over the past 12 months my French translating has been directed towards a different project, which will hopefully lead to a published book (on a somewhat related subject). This’ll continue to be the case for at least the next 6 months. As you can imagine this goes a long way to explaining the lack of progress on this blog!

Given that I’ve less time to devote to this project at the moment I have decided the best use of my time in the near future is to work towards translating the untranslated portions of the IS journals – so that at least the entire content is available in English for the first time. I’m quite confident that this can be completed within the year.

After that I’ll go back to working towards facsimile copies of the IS journal in new translations (unless of course, others take up the challenge in the meantime!). It may even be possible that issue #1 will be completed before the end of the year (it was frustratingly close to finished before my energies were redirected).
